The Christkindl Market & Chapel In The Sky

On Wednesday we took the Metra train downtown to check out the Christkindl Market, an annual tradition, and go for a tour of the Chapel in the Sky.
The Chapel in the Sky is the highest chapel in the world and sits atop the United Methodist Temple skyscraper, which houses the Chicago Methodist Temple on the bottom floor and then office space throughout the next 20-some stories. The Chapel was a gift from the Walgreens family (the drugstore people). There are tours of it each Wednesday at 2 and I highly recommend it.
We had to take two elevators and a couple flights of stairs to get to it but it was worth it.
It isn't large at all, adding to its intimacy, and is used for weddings and other small ceremonies.

This wood carving of Jesus looking out over Chicago is an homage to the one in the Temple on the ground floor where Jesus is seen overlooking Jerusalem. Both are simply beautiful.
A view out the window that is reflected in the carving above, though many new buildings have been added to the skyline since the carving was made in the 1960s (I believe).
I don't believe this is a photo of Riley lying prostrate. I think it's more a moment of protest that he can't climb on top of something.
Here's an aerial shot of the Christkindl Market, where we went shortly after.
Riley ridding on his mom's shoulders. That's one of the great ways to see Chicago. And it's far less dorky than the Segway tours.
